She was known as the "eternal flapper". The Actress and Singer Photograph Collection contains publicity images of some of the most celebrated female thespians and opera singers from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Many of the photos in the collection are the product of popular San Francisco photographic studios. In the late 19th century, celebrity publicity escalated due to the development of modern photographic processes and the overland telegraph and theater soon became a popular diversion throughout California, contributing to the boom in the film industry in the 1920s.
